AD Code (Authorized Dealer Code)
An AD Code is a unique 14-digit numerical code issued by a bank that is authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to deal in foreign exchange. It serves as a digital link between your business's current account and the Indian Customs system, ensuring that all international trade payments are legally routed through authorized banking channels.
The AD Code is a non-negotiable requirement for every exporter in India:
Shipping Bill Generation: You cannot file a Shipping Bill on the ICEGATE portal without a registered AD Code. Since the Shipping Bill is the primary document for export, no AD Code means no legal exports.
Customs Clearance: It is mandatory for clearing goods at any port (Airport, Seaport, or ICD).
Foreign Remittance: Required to receive payments from international buyers in foreign currency and credit them to your Indian bank account.
Port-Specific Registration: While you get one AD Code from your bank, you must register it separately at every port from which you intend to ship goods.
Government Benefits: Essential for claiming GST Refunds, Duty Drawback, and other export incentives, as these are credited directly to the bank account linked with the AD Code.
Required Documents
AD Code Letter: The original letter from your bank on their official letterhead (must follow the specified format).
Bank Certificate: A certificate from the bank as per Customs Public Notice No. 93/2020.
IEC Certificate: Self-attested copy of your Import-Exporter Code.
GST Registration: Copy of your GST certificate.
Business PAN: Copy of the Permanent Account Number of the entity.
Cancelled Cheque: Of the current account linked to the AD Code.
Board Resolution: (For companies) Authorizing the signatory to register the code.
Digital Signature (DSC): A valid Class 3 DSC for signing the online application.
