EPR E-Waste Annual Return FY 2025-26: Last Date 30 Sept 2026
If your business is registered under India’s E-Waste Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, 30 September 2026 is a date you shouldn’t overlook. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has extended the deadline for filing annual returns for the financial year 2025–26 to 30 September 2026.
That gives registered stakeholders some additional time—but waiting until the final days could create unnecessary problems, especially if your sales data, EPR certificates, or other records need to be checked before submission.
Why 30 September 2026 Matters
The E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 require relevant stakeholders to meet their EPR responsibilities through the CPCB’s E-Waste EPR Portal. The framework covers manufacturers, producers, refurbishers, and recyclers involved with electrical and electronic equipment covered by the rules.
For producers, annual returns are part of the compliance process. CPCB’s portal currently carries an official notice stating that the filing deadline for FY 2025–26 annual returns has been extended until 30 September 2026.
In simple terms, if your entity is required to file the annual return, the September 30 deadline is the date to work toward—not something to assume will automatically be extended again.
Who Needs to Pay Attention?
The E-Waste (Management) Rules apply to several categories of entities, including manufacturers, producers, refurbishers, and recyclers dealing with covered electrical and electronic equipment and e-waste.
A producer can include a business that manufactures electrical or electronic equipment under its own brand, sells equipment under its own brand even when manufactured by another party, or imports covered electrical and electronic equipment for sale in India.
If you're unsure whether your business falls within the applicable category, check your CPCB registration and the products covered under Schedule I rather than assuming that registration alone determines every filing obligation.
What Should You Check Before Filing?
Don't treat the annual return as a form you can complete in a few minutes without preparation. Before filing, review the information that supports your EPR compliance. Depending on your role and applicable requirements, this can include sales information, product details, EPR obligations, certificates, and records maintained during the financial year.
CPCB's E-Waste EPR system also reminds stakeholders to file their quarterly returns regularly and on time.
For producers, EPR obligations are linked to recycling requirements, and the rules provide for fulfillment through EPR certificates obtained from registered recyclers.
That means discrepancies between your records and information already submitted through the portal are worth identifying before you attempt the annual filing.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
This is where delaying the filing can become more than an administrative inconvenience. CPCB's environmental compensation guidelines specifically address failure to file annual and quarterly returns. The guidelines provide for a notice after the last filing date, followed by different environmental compensation regimes depending on how long the return remains outstanding. They also state that, after the specified period, the annual return may be auto-filled on the portal and environmental compensation may be imposed on any recycling-target shortfall in addition to applicable charges.
So, September 30 should be treated as a compliance deadline, not a reminder to start preparing.
Don't Wait Until September 30
Portal-related problems, missing documents, incorrect sales figures, or questions about EPR certificates can take time to resolve.A practical approach is to log into the official E-Waste EPR Portal well before the deadline and check whether your registration, submitted data, and compliance records are in order. If something doesn't match, you'll have time to investigate it rather than discovering the problem on the final day.CPCB also provides an official complaint mechanism on the portal for users experiencing issues.
The EPR e-waste annual return deadline for FY 2025–26 is 30 September 2026, following CPCB's extension. If your business is covered by India's E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, now is the time to verify your records, review your EPR compliance, and prepare the annual return rather than leaving everything to the last week. Missing a regulatory deadline can create avoidable complications. Filing accurately and on time is the safer approach.
